A half takes about 7 cubic feet of freezer space. Plan on a 7 cu ft or larger chest freezer.
- Family of 4 eating beef 3–4 times a week: about 12–14 months
- Family of 5–6 or heavy beef eaters: about 8–10 months
- Family of 2: about 2 years, so most couples are better off with a quarter cow
