Our tallow skincare line is made in small batches at our Springtown, Texas facility using tallow rendered from our own cattle. Every product starts with the same ingredient: pure rendered beef fat. The differences between products are in texture, additional ingredients, and application.
Why Tallow Works on Skin
Tallow is rich in oleic, palmitic, and stearic fatty acids -- the same fatty acids that make up a significant portion of human skin's natural lipid layer. This compositional similarity is why tallow absorbs into skin rather than sitting on top of it, and why it functions as a genuine moisturizer rather than just an occlusive barrier. It also carries fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K naturally present in the fat.
The Sebum Similarity
Human sebum -- the oil your skin produces naturally -- is composed primarily of triglycerides, fatty acids, wax esters, and squalene. The fatty acid profile of beef tallow is unusually close to this composition. Oleic acid makes up roughly 45 to 50 percent of tallow's fatty acid content, and it accounts for a comparable share of human sebum. Palmitic and stearic acids round out the profile in proportions that track closely with what skin produces on its own.
This matters because skin has receptors and pathways designed to work with these specific fatty acids. When you apply something with a radically different lipid profile -- like many plant-derived oils that are high in linoleic acid -- your skin processes it differently than it does its own sebum. Tallow's similarity to sebum is the reason it tends to absorb without leaving the heavy, greasy residue you might expect from a fat-based product.
What Tallow Does Not Do
Tallow provides no UV protection. It contains no SPF and should not be treated as a substitute for sunscreen in any application.
Tallow is not a medical treatment for skin conditions. We are a ranch that makes skincare products. Consult a doctor for medical skin concerns.
Tallow does not produce the instant silicone-smooth effect that many synthetic moisturizers deliver. Dimethicone and similar silicones fill in texture immediately on application. Tallow does not do this. The benefit from tallow is functional and cumulative: your skin's lipid barrier becomes better supported over time, which reduces dryness and improves texture gradually. If you switch from a silicone-heavy moisturizer, the first week may feel like a step backward. Give it two weeks before forming an opinion.
Individual Products
Tallow Lotion -- Natural Unscented ($28) -- Our base daily moisturizer. Fluid, pumpable, best applied after a shower to slightly damp skin over larger body areas. Quick absorption for a fat-based product.
Magnesium Tallow Lotion ($28) -- Tallow lotion base with magnesium chloride added for transdermal magnesium delivery. Popular with people managing muscle tension, sleep quality, or general magnesium insufficiency. Slight tingling on first application is normal.
Serbian Clay Beef Tallow Lotion ($28) -- Kaolin clay added to the tallow base produces a slightly matte finish. Better suited for oilier skin types or anyone who finds straight tallow too rich for the face.
Shea Butter Whipped Tallow Balm ($25) -- Tallow whipped with shea butter for a lighter, airier texture. Faster absorption than straight tallow. Works as a face moisturizer, hand cream, and all-over body product. Versatile and the most popular product in this collection for daily use.
Shea Butter Tallow Cream 2oz ($16) -- Denser than the whipped balm. Better for targeted dry areas: elbows, heels, hands, cuticles. More occlusive than the lotion and balm, making it effective for overnight treatment of severely dry skin.

How to Start with Tallow Skincare
What to Buy First
The Tallow Skincare Starter Kit at $38 is the most practical first purchase. It gives you a curated range of products at a size that lets you trial the format without committing to full sizes of multiple items.
If you prefer to start with a single product, the Shea Butter Whipped Tallow Balm at $25 is the best single entry point. It is the most versatile product in the line, works on face, hands, and body, and has a texture that is less intimidating than straight tallow for first-time users.
How to Patch Test
Apply a small amount of product to the inside of your wrist or behind your ear. Leave it on for 24 hours without washing. If you have no redness, itching, or irritation after 24 hours, you are clear to use the product on your face and body. Most people do not react to tallow, but patch testing before applying to your face is worth the step.
What to Expect in the First Two Weeks
The first two weeks of switching to tallow skincare from conventional products can feel like an adjustment. If you have been using moisturizers with silicones, synthetic emollients, or heavy occlusive agents, your skin has been operating with those materials present. When you switch to tallow, your skin's oil production and barrier function begin recalibrating. Some people experience a brief period of skin texture changes as the skin adjusts. This is more common on the face than the body.
During the first week, do not judge the product by how it compares to what you were using before. The silicone-smooth finish of many commercial moisturizers is a cosmetic effect, not a functional one. What tallow does becomes apparent over two to four weeks of consistent use: reduced dryness, better moisture retention between applications, and improved overall texture. Give it at least two full weeks before drawing conclusions.
Building a Full Tallow Skincare Routine
Morning
For your face, use the Shea Butter Whipped Tallow Balm. A pea-sized amount on clean skin is enough. If your skin runs oily or you prefer a matte finish, use the Serbian Clay Beef Tallow Lotion instead. Apply SPF on top after the tallow absorbs.
For your lips, one pass of the Tallow Lip Balm before heading out provides a base that holds up through the morning.
For your body, the Tallow Lotion -- Natural Unscented is the most practical morning option. Apply after getting dressed or immediately after a shower to slightly damp skin for better absorption.
Evening
Evening is the best time to use the denser products. For your face at night, the Shea Butter Tallow Cream works well as a denser overnight moisturizer if your skin is dry. Apply a thin layer after cleansing.
The Magnesium Tallow Lotion is well-suited to evening application. Magnesium absorbed transdermally is associated with muscle relaxation, and applying it before bed positions you to get that benefit during sleep. Apply to legs, arms, or wherever you tend to hold tension.
Hands and feet benefit from the Shea Butter Tallow Cream applied at night, particularly on heels and cuticles. Apply after washing hands for the last time and let it absorb while you sleep.
Travel
The Tallow Lotion Bar covers body moisturizing in solid format that clears TSA liquid restrictions. It melts on contact with skin. The Tallow Lip Balm 4-Pack gives you one per bag, one in a coat pocket, and spares. Both keep your routine intact when you cannot bring full-size products.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is beef tallow skincare safe for sensitive skin?
For most people with sensitive skin, tallow is tolerable and often better than many commercial alternatives because of the short ingredient list. Many sensitive skin reactions come from fragrance, preservatives, synthetic emulsifiers, and other additives present in conventional moisturizers. Tallow-based products with minimal added ingredients remove most of those variables. Always patch test before applying any new product to your face. If you have a diagnosed skin condition, consult a dermatologist before making significant changes to your skincare routine.
Will tallow skincare clog my pores?
Tallow has a comedogenic rating of 2 on a scale of 0 to 5, which puts it in the low-to-moderate range -- similar to many plant oils commonly used in skincare and lower than coconut oil, which is rated 4. Whether any product clogs your pores depends heavily on individual skin chemistry and how much product you use. Most people who use tallow on the face do not experience increased breakouts. Start with a small amount and increase gradually if your skin responds well.
How long does tallow skincare last (shelf life)?
Our products carry a 12-month shelf life from the production date. Store products in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not introduce water into the jar -- use dry hands or a clean spatula when scooping from tins. Signs that a product has turned are an off or sour smell and a change in color or texture.
Can I use tallow skincare on my face?
Yes, and several products in our line are well-suited for facial use. The Shea Butter Whipped Tallow Balm is the most commonly used face product -- its whipped texture applies lightly and absorbs without the heaviness of straight tallow. The Serbian Clay Beef Tallow Lotion is a good option for oilier or combination skin because the kaolin clay produces a matte finish. The Shea Butter Tallow Cream can be used on the face as a denser overnight treatment. Start with a small amount -- less product than you think you need is usually the right amount for the face.
What makes Parker County tallow different from other brands?
The tallow in our products comes from cattle we raise on our ranch in Parker County, Texas. We render it ourselves at our Springtown facility and produce every product in small batches. Most tallow skincare brands source rendered tallow from third-party suppliers, often commodity beef fat from large processing operations with no direct connection to the source cattle. We know where our tallow comes from because we raise the animals ourselves. Small-batch production means we are not holding large quantities of finished product in inventory for extended periods, which matters for freshness in a product category where the quality of the base fat is the entire product.
